In September 2020, GeT Metal Group’s division, GeT Alloys, acquired Metlite Alloys from Insimbi Industrial Holdings, a JSE-listed company. Founded in 1986, Metlite Alloys is renowned for its longevity as one of South Africa’s leading secondary aluminum ingot producers.
GeT Alloys commenced its operations in Johannesburg, setting an ambitious production target of 800 tons per month. Production began earlier this year, and the company has been striving to leverage the rich history and expertise of Metlite Alloys to achieve this goal.
By doing so, GeT Alloys aims to maintain its reputation for quality and innovation in the aluminum industry while expanding its presence in the market.
In 2013, Andrew Bishop acquired a small, single-branch operation and transformed it into an expansive enterprise with eight branches strategically located throughout the Western Cape. The company, operating under the name GeT Metal and Waste, has developed a robust industrial platform with heavy industry equipment for processing, cutting, and refining metals to meet London Metal Exchange (LME) specifications, all to support its continued growth.
Our specialization encompasses various ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as plastic and paper recyclable materials. The business’s growth has been fueled by establishing a strong operational presence, recruiting skilled teams, and progressively incorporating essential assets such as hammer mills, balers, shears, and precision cutting equipment.
To facilitate efficient distribution, we maintain a fleet of super link trucks, back tipper trucks, and crane trucks outfitted with waste metal grabs for rapid loading and clearing. This extensive network allows us to provide nationwide supply chain and distribution services, further reinforcing our position as an industry leader.
In December 2021, the GeT Metal Group acquired Pex Foundry CC and relaunched the business as GeT Castings (Pty) Ltd. As a casting foundry, GeT Castings specializes in producing high-quality metal castings for engineering, energy, and other manufacturing industries. The foundry utilizes advanced techniques to create custom parts from a range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
GeT Castings undertook a reconfiguration of its production assets and introduced a fully fledged lab environment to ensure comprehensive metallurgical compliance with customer requirements.
The acquisition of GeT Castings by the GeT Metal Group is part of the group’s strategy to establish a vertically integrated industrial metals business, further expanding its capabilities in the industry.
GeT Steel is located on a 40,000 sqm site, which was once known as the Atlantis Forge and was once part of DCD Dorbyl. GeT Metal Group acquired the property and designed the melting capacity to handle 18 tons per hour.
The metal feedstock will be supplied not only by GeT Metal & Waste but also from other domestic and national metal suppliers. This approach is a crucial part of GeT Metal Group’s strategy to take ownership of the supply chain for ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as melting and conversion processes.
The second expansion phase is scheduled to commence following the establishment of the billet plant. The installation of a rolling mill will allow GeT Steel to produce various steel-based products that meet the specific requirements of the domestic market.
GeT Oxy was established within GeT Metal & Waste with the purpose of creating a self-sustaining operation for the group and producing oxygen on a reliable and cost-effective basis for both our customers and ourselves. This has given us the independence and freedom to be less reliant on external oxygen suppliers, setting us apart from other players in the metal industry.
The significance of oxygen in the metal, foundry, and demolition sectors cannot be overstated, as its primary uses involve cutting and processing steel
GeT Metal Properties (GMP) was established by GeT Metal Group as an Asset & Lease Company to manage the industrial properties owned by the group.
GMP currently owns and manages a formidable portfolio of unique industrial assets with large-scale infrastructure, totaling over 300,000 square meters of land.
These assets include GeT Alloys (CPT & JHB), GeT Steel (CPT & JHB), GeT Fuel (CPT), Eclipse Foundry, Standard Foundry, and the Naledi Foundry, all located in Johannesburg.
